Profit per job for roofing businesses

Review completed roofing work with its costs beside its revenue. ServicePro IQ’s Profit page lists completed Housecall Pro jobs with cost, profit and profit percentage, giving owners and estimators a place to investigate the result before pricing the next comparable scope.

A large roofing invoice can conceal a thin result

A replacement project may bring in a substantial invoice while leaving less than expected after materials, labor and other direct costs. Disposal, additional work and changed site conditions can affect the final result. Revenue alone does not explain whether the estimate reflected what the crew actually delivered.

Completed work deserves a deliberate cost check. A supplier or subcontractor cost that has not yet been reflected in your records can make the result look stronger than it is. Before treating the displayed profit as a settled conclusion, confirm what is included and what still needs attention.

Compare similar scopes. A small repair and a full replacement have different cost structures, and a difficult site may change the assumptions behind either one. Use the report to choose a job for investigation, then talk through the estimate and finished scope with the people who know it.

What the Profit page shows

The Profit page lists completed jobs with work order number, estimate number, estimator, cost, revenue, profit and profit percentage. It also shows whether the period is above or below its revenue goal. Every job in the job lists links straight to the job in Housecall Pro, so you can move from a result to the underlying job.

Reports can be filtered by date range, day, week, month or year, and by tag, tag combination, lead source and employee. Your chosen filters stay in place between report pages. Use comparable completed work and verify the costs represented before interpreting a difference as a pricing or execution problem.

Job and revenue figures refresh hourly, at 20 minutes past the hour. The Housecall Pro integration overview explains the connection. For a separate worked calculation, use the profit per job calculator. Revenue minus direct job cost, divided by revenue and multiplied by 100, gives the margin on that cost basis; it does not establish net business profit.

Close the cost questions before changing the estimate

Choose a completed replacement and open its linked Housecall Pro job. Check the agreed work against your supporting cost records. Ask whether material, labor, subcontractor and disposal costs that belong to the job are represented. These are your review categories, not a promise of separate cost-breakdown fields in the report.

Here is a made-up example: a roofing project bills $20,000 and includes $15,000 in direct job costs. The $5,000 difference is 25% of revenue. If another $1,000 of disposal and labor cost belongs to it, the difference becomes $4,000, or 20%. These numbers explain the arithmetic, not a roofing benchmark. Overhead outside the job costs still has to be covered.

Then ask what the estimator could reasonably have known. A scope change may require a better approval process. A site condition may require a clearer pre-job check. An incomplete cost record requires follow-up before a pricing decision. Assign the next action and review a comparable completed project later, rather than changing every quote because of one unusual roof.

Who should join this review

This approach fits roofing owners and estimators reviewing completed repairs and replacements in Housecall Pro. It is useful when large invoices make revenue look encouraging but the team needs a more precise discussion of what the work left behind.

Use it for completed-job review while keeping in-progress production and cash planning in your normal project process. A completed job’s profit is not the same as money collected, and a project still underway needs context that a finished-job comparison cannot provide.

Connect the completed-job review with your roofing Daily Huddle. Use the morning meeting for today’s commitments and take detailed cost questions into a separate review with the people who can resolve them.

Connect Housecall Pro and review your own numbers

ServicePro IQ connects directly to Housecall Pro and requires a Housecall Pro MAX account because that plan provides API keys. An admin creates the key in Housecall Pro’s App Store by searching for API and choosing Generate API key. You paste it into the one-time connect link supplied to your business.

The link works for seven days, and only the newest link works. ServicePro IQ checks the key immediately and tells you if Housecall Pro rejects it. The key is stored encrypted and cannot be seen again after you paste it, including by the ServicePro IQ team. Your contact lets you know when your reports are ready. ServicePro IQ reads your Housecall Pro data without changing it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Profit page as a roofing work-in-progress schedule?

The approved Profit page scope is completed jobs with cost, revenue, profit and profit percentage. Use your existing process to track work still in progress. Before reviewing a completed project’s result, confirm that the relevant costs have been represented in the underlying records.

Is job profit the same as cash collected?

No. A job’s revenue and cost answer a different question from whether the customer has paid. ServicePro IQ’s A/R page shows outstanding balances and a list of outstanding invoices. Review payment status separately before treating the result as cash available to spend.

Can I review jobs with my estimator or field lead?

Yes. Owners can grant report access by Google email address. ServicePro IQ has one flat price with unlimited users and reports. Bring the job’s scope and supporting cost records to the discussion so the team can explain the result rather than guessing from the percentage.

Look past the size of your roofing invoice

Check what a completed roofing project left after its recorded costs before pricing a similar scope.
