Profit per job for plumbing businesses
Review whether completed plumbing work left enough after its recorded costs. ServicePro IQ’s Profit page shows cost, revenue, profit and profit percentage from your Housecall Pro job data, helping you ask better questions about repairs, replacements and the estimates behind them.

The second visit changes the economics
A plumbing repair can look straightforward when it is booked and very different when it is finished. A return trip, additional materials or a change in access can affect the work required. If you review only the invoice total, you miss the question that matters: what did this completed scope cost to deliver?
Separate the customer’s approved work from extra effort the business absorbed. A water heater replacement and a drain-clearing visit do not belong in the same comparison simply because the same plumber handled both. Use comparable jobs to understand whether an estimating assumption keeps missing something.
The useful outcome is a change you can explain. Perhaps the office needs a better access question before booking. Perhaps the estimator needs to document disposal or restoration responsibilities. Avoid blaming the plumber from one number when the scope, records or handoff may explain the difference.
What the Profit page shows
The Profit page lists completed jobs with work order number, estimate number, estimator, cost, revenue, profit and profit percentage. It also shows whether the period is above or below its revenue goal. Every job in the job lists links straight to the job in Housecall Pro, so you can move from a result to the underlying job.
Reports can be filtered by date range, day, week, month or year, and by tag, tag combination, lead source and employee. Your chosen filters stay in place between report pages. Use comparable completed work and verify the costs represented before interpreting a difference as a pricing or execution problem.
Job and revenue figures refresh hourly, at 20 minutes past the hour. The Housecall Pro integration overview explains the connection. For a separate worked calculation, use the profit per job calculator. Revenue minus direct job cost, divided by revenue and multiplied by 100, gives the margin on that cost basis; it does not establish net business profit.
Follow the cost back to the scope
Start with a completed replacement or repair whose result surprised you. Open the Housecall Pro job from the report and compare the scope with your cost records. Ask whether the materials and labor for every visit are represented. If a cost is missing, get the records checked before deciding that the job was unusually profitable.
Consider a made-up water heater job that bills $2,000 with $1,400 in direct job costs. The difference is $600, or 30% of revenue. If an additional $200 of work belongs to that job, the difference becomes $400, or 20%. Those are illustrative numbers, not target margins for plumbing businesses. Business overhead still needs to be covered by the money left after direct costs.
Then ask the estimator and plumber what they knew at each stage. Was the additional work visible before quoting? Did the customer change the scope? Was the original description incomplete? Choose one follow-up, such as revising the intake question about access, and give someone responsibility for using it on the next similar job.
Who should join this review
This is useful for plumbing owners who want repair and replacement reviews tied to actual completed work. The office, estimator and field lead can each explain a different part of the result without turning a weekly review into a debate about memory.
Start with a small set of comparable jobs whose costs you can check. If your records distinguish drain work from replacement work through tags, use that distinction consistently. A reliable comparison is more useful than a broad average that mixes very different scopes.
Connect the completed-job review with your plumbing Daily Huddle. Use the morning meeting for today’s commitments and take detailed cost questions into a separate review with the people who can resolve them.
Connect Housecall Pro and review your own numbers
ServicePro IQ connects directly to Housecall Pro and requires a Housecall Pro MAX account because that plan provides API keys. An admin creates the key in Housecall Pro’s App Store by searching for API and choosing Generate API key. You paste it into the one-time connect link supplied to your business.
The link works for seven days, and only the newest link works. ServicePro IQ checks the key immediately and tells you if Housecall Pro rejects it. The key is stored encrypted and cannot be seen again after you paste it, including by the ServicePro IQ team. Your contact lets you know when your reports are ready. ServicePro IQ reads your Housecall Pro data without changing it.

Frequently asked questions
How should I handle plumbing work that needed another visit?
Check whether the costs of the additional visit are included in the records behind the completed job. Then separate a changed customer scope from work needed to finish the original scope. That distinction helps you decide whether the estimate, booking questions or execution needs attention.
Is job profit the same as cash collected?
No. A job’s revenue and cost answer a different question from whether the customer has paid. ServicePro IQ’s A/R page shows outstanding balances and a list of outstanding invoices. Review payment status separately before treating the result as cash available to spend.
Can I review jobs with my estimator or field lead?
Yes. Owners can grant report access by Google email address. ServicePro IQ has one flat price with unlimited users and reports. Bring the job’s scope and supporting cost records to the discussion so the team can explain the result rather than guessing from the percentage.
